Kelvin McKay-Hill is pictured in black alongside student.
Kelvin encourages students to not give in to self-doubt even if one does not have ideal grades. His grades were not ideal but he still applied for college. Kelvin is one of very few Black male classically trained guitarists in the USA. He is also an alum of the program and FHS as well as a graduate of LMU’s undergraduate music program.
I did not have a father or brother figure growing up. The men that came [to the program] to teach me about myself and my culture were my father figures. I’m glad I can be a brother or father figure to these kids now.
